Weekend time waster: reminisce your noob days with this Chinese Dota 2 comic

When I learned that someone was making a Dota 2 Chinese comic (manhua), I thought it was going to be a story about the in-game characters. It. Was. Not. And I’m not complaining at all.

Dota 2: The King of Gaming follows the story of Wang Ya Fei or simply “Fei”, a gaming genius with “superhuman reaction time and hands of super speed”, which he uses to break high score records for arcade games. He is then introduced to Dota 2, which he immediately assumes is just like the previous games he played. Except it isn’t.

Dota 2: The King of Gaming does an interesting job of presenting Dota 2 as a legitimate sport, showing us a glimpse of what gaming and eSports is like in countries like Korea and China with gaming clubs and competitions in school. At the moment, only eight chapters of the manhua have been translated into English, and they can be found in the Dota 2 subreddit. The pages and panels are read left to right as opposed to the right to left style Japanese manga readers will be used to.
