In the city of Shenzhen, China, two brothers in their 20s managed to transform Apple’s iPod touch into an iPhone through their ingenious designed device.
They name the device, which embodies the iPod, the “Apple Peel”.
The “Apple Peel” comprises of a battery compartment and SIM card slot. After slotting the iPod into “Apple Peel”, users will be able to send messages and make phone calls. It’s probably the cheapest way to transform an iPod into an iPhone.
The two brothers are now planning to register a company to exclusively market this product. They plan to name their company “Derivative Technology”, meaning, “deriving from Apple” or other technology companies in the future.
In China, an iPhone costs around 750 USD. While an iPod and Apple peel costs about 225 and 75 USD respectively. The math is simple. Choosing the iPod and Apple Peel over the iPhone, a user can save 450 USD.
However, the saving comes with a price. There are minor glitches with Apple Peel. Reviews reflect that it has unstable call quality, is tedious to operate, and has no Internet access. Hence some analysts predict that it is unlikely for Apple Peel to occupy a large market share. The table will only turn if the brothers are able to solve all these problems. Can they?
