Apple’s new iPhone 7 is coming; here are the launch dates for Asia

iphone1

Apple has officially unveiled its new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus models. You probably know all about them already, but just in case you don’t, here’s are the basics:

The new phones are waterproof (IP67), so you can stop worrying about spills. Apple has also removed the old headphone jack and left only the lightning port, so you can also stop worrying about charging your phone and using headphones at the same time, too. Unless you buy the expensive new wireless Airpods separately, of course.

The new phones sport an upgraded camera (the 7 Plus even has a dual-lens camera) with optical image stabilization. Then there are the more predictable updates: the display is brighter, the chip is faster, the speakers are louder (and stereo!), etc.

The phones will cost exactly what you’d expect: US$649 for the smaller iPhone 7, and US$769 for the larger iPhone 7 Plus. But thankfully, finally, Apple has done away with the 16 GB option, so each phone is now available with a default storage of 32 GB, with available upgrades to 128 and 256 GB.

Asia release details

China, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, will get the new iPhones on the same timeline as the US: orders open this Friday (Sept. 9), and the phones start shipping on the 16th. Everyone else, unfortunately, gets to wait a little bit, as Apple didn’t announce a specific release date for any other Asian countries during the event.

Additionally, Apple announced that fans in China can now join Apple’s iPhone subscription program, in which users can pay a monthly fee to be eligible for a new iPhone every year. Previously, that was only available to customers in the US.

Apple also launched a new version of its Apple Watch, but did not announce any Asia-specific launch dates.
