Wargaming to host eSports tournament for National Servicemen in Singapore

You’re a military game. Tanks, terrain, and war are your daily offering. What do you do to attract players in a country that doesn’t have a rich military history?

You make use of the poor bastards serving out their conscriptions, of course. Over in Singapore, Wargaming has struck a deal with Singapore Press Holdings and the country’s Ministry of Defence to organise a World of Tanks eSports tournament exclusively for the lads serving their National Service. Singapore law requires all male citizens to enlist in the army for two years once they turn eighteen.

Some guys take to army life with panache. Others try every trick in the book to avoid as much of it as possible, or better yet, evade it completely. Still, however much you might like or dislike National Service, Wargaming’s not offering a bad deal. The tournament will have a total cash pool of S$15,000 and also include over S$10,000 worth of Razer products.

Registrations for the tournament it opened online yesterday and will close on November 5th 2013. The only requirement is you must produce proof of your valid 11B, a special identity card issued to all citizens serving their National Service.
