Apple has revealed record revenues and profits in its newest financial report (for fiscal Q1 2015, which is October to December 2014). A great deal of the growth was driven by soaring demand in China for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.
Globally, Apple netted an all-time high quarterly revenue of US$74.6 billion and record-setting quarterly net profit of US$18 billion. Apple’s profit for those three months is a record-breaker for any company, points out TechCrunch, as it exceeds the US$16.2 billion that Russian gas giant Gazprom once pocketed.
In the greater China area, Apple’s revenues amounted to US$16.1 billion, which is up 70 percent from the same period last year, and up 157 percent from the disappointing figures for July to September caused by a delayed iPhone 6 launch in mainland China. The latest iPhones finally commenced official sales in the mainland in mid-October.

Here’s Apple’s own breakdown across geographies and product categories:

This caps off a day of good news for Apple. Earlier today, Canalys produced a report indicating that Apple was the number one phone brand in China in Q4 in terms of shipments – for the first time ever.
Apple is responding to the growing China market by opening more official stores in the country. There are currently 15 open in mainland China, but Apple wants the tally to reach 25 by the end of the year.
