“Amazon and one of its biggest sellers in India, Cloudtail, have decided to end their relationship, they said on Monday, following years of allegations from brick-and-mortar retailers that the seller received preferential treatment,” Reuters reported.
Details:
- A joint venture agreement between Amazon and India’s Catamaran, which controls Cloudtail, is up for renewal on May 19 next year, but the two have decided to end the partnership at that date.
- The companies didn’t provide the reason why they ended the relationship in their joint statement.

- Reuters previously launched an investigation based on Amazon documents showing that it had long provided preferential treatment to a group of sellers, a list that included Cloudtail. The Jeff Bezos-founded company denied this claim.
- The development also comes as Amazon and India rival Flipkart face an antitrust investigation ordered by the government. The country’s supreme court said it expects the two to “voluntarily” participate in the probes.
