Report: Goldman Sachs to hire 100 tech employees in Singapore

Goldman Sachs Group plans to add about 100 staff in Singapore, taking its headcount in the Southeast Asian financial hub to a record [number] following a tumultuous period in the region,” reported Bloomberg.

Details:

  • E.G. Morse, head of Goldman Sachs’ regional operations, has said that all the new hires will be for technology roles. This will bring its total number of employees in Singapore to over 1,000.
  • The increased hiring comes as the firm faces a strong deal pipeline, with the tech staff intended for helping with its cash management operations. Goldman also plans on hiring more investment bankers.

Context:

  • The company has hired 10 global macro traders in Singapore over the last 18 months, and aims to hire more wealth managers and commodity traders.
  • Goldman is looking to grow its franchise in Singapore across all products. This is despite the corruption scandal it was embroiled in involving Malaysia’s 1MDB sovereign wealth fund, which has affected the firm’s image in Asia.
