Given that Amazon has nearly 100,000 staff in the country, it’s estimated that around 1,000 employees will be affected.

Tech in Asia has reached out to Amazon India for comments.

The move will affect roles across marketplace operations, HR, and a few tech roles, said the source, who added that the process will be completed by next week. The company will offer “generous” severance packages based on staff tenure.

The job cuts in India are part of a global retrenchment by Amazon, which was announced by CEO Andy Jassy last week.

The company has several offerings in the country, including ecommerce, internet, data and payments. It reported a 30% increase in revenue in India for FYE 2022, while losses went down by 17%.
