AirAsia, one of the most social media savvy Airlines in Asia was ranked third as the Airline Talking Champion on Twitter for March.
The data is complied by Eezeer in partnership with Air Valid and Simpliflying, an aviation branding company based in Singapore and New York.
The data shows that AirAsia sent over 1,600 tweets last month. That averaged out to be about 53 tweets per day, an amazing effort by AirAsia to connect and engage with fans on Twitter.
The infographic also shows that AirAsia achieved the highest score in customer service which is 6.2 points above the average.
“AirAsia’s social media strategy is one of the most advanced not just in the region, but in the world. For example, AirAsia replies to the largest percentage of tweets to an airline – over 40% of tweets are replied to – that’s some serious effort, and this is way above the industry average of 24%,” Shashank Nigam, CEO at Simpliflying shared with us.
“They’ve also proactively moved functions of the customer service online, at AskAirAsia. Other airlines in the region should not just look and wonder, but learn from AirAsia and forge ahead,” he added.

At the last iStrategy conference, Kathleen Tan, Regional Head of Commercial at AirAsia group shared with the audience that the company uses social media not to socialize, but to:
- Generate buzz and consumer noise
- Enhance the brand experience
- Transform the PR landscape
- Humanize their brand
- Reduce marketing dollars
Besides success on Twitter, AirAsia also has a combined total of more than 1 million fans on Facebook with each country having its own dedicated Facebook page. Even on Facebook, engagement level is high as fans become the “ambassadors” of the company. Kudos to AirAsia for the work done in the social space so far.
