In brief: Go-Jek’s Get officially launches in Thailand, eyes Philippines

Get, the on-demand multi-service platform supported by Go-Jek, officially launches in Bangkok today. After an initial testing phase announced in December 2018, the company has now extended its service area to cover 80 percent of the city and also introduced Get Food, its food-delivery service.

Following its beta phase, Get – the local identity Go-Jek has developed for the Thai market – is launching three services in the kingdom’s capital: food delivery with Get Food, express couriering with Get Delivery, and ride-hailing with Get Win.

Licensed drivers working in Bangkok’s existing motorcycle taxi industry can join the Get Win platform. Go-Jek said it is “committed to help existing drivers become part of Thailand’s booming digital economy.”

Meanwhile, Get Food users will be able to order meals from over 20,000 merchants.

“In the two months since our beta launch, which covered a limited area of the city, we have completed 2 million trips. This is undeniable proof of the need for more choice in our sector,” said Get CEO Pinya Nittayakasetwat.

He told Reuters that Get would add a localized version of Go-Pay – Go-Jek’s digital payments offering – “soon.” Meanwhile, Go-Jek co-founder and CEO Nadiem Makarim told the newswire that he expects the company to be “pretty fast” in launching a ride-hailing service in the Philippines.

Go-Jek was denied a ride-hailing operating license by Filipino regulators in January, but was able to appeal the decision. Later in the month it acquired Manila-based fintech startup Coins.ph for a reported US$72 million.
