The Age Of Facebook

facebook_logoWe are now talking about a time whereby your college roommate is going to check if you’re on Facebook even before meeting you to make sure you are not a social outcast.

Has the world decided on their favorite online social site? With 350 million active users, the answer seems to be a “yes”.

Below are the reasons why I think we are in the age of Facebook (at least in the social media horizon).

1. Facebookers are loyal users

Friendster, MySpace and Facebook. The first two have in chronological order, enjoyed their share of success. And now, Facebook is the new bright and shiny star.

Clearly, it is way ahead of all its direct competitors (or predecessors). Constant learning, innovation and change has offered us the perfect social networking site we have today. The number of Facebook users has significantly raised the barrier of entry.

Facebook helps users build relationships and these relationships are here to stay. In other words, Facebook users are pretty loyal; maybe not to the brand but certainly to the connections they have made on the social site.

2. It makes money

moneyEvery active user counts. Social media thrives through its users. The more time you spend on its site, the more money Facebook makes. Now that’s the essence of a business: to make money. Facebook has proven that it could be self sustainable without affecting its users’ experience too much.

With a huge user base and a reasonably good advertising platform, it provides a perfect channel for marketers to reach their target audience. Facebook advertising data also presents valuable information to advertisers.
