Ensogo shuts Hong Kong office: report

padlock security

On the day Ensogo said it would be shutting all its Southeast Asian marketplaces and laying off staff, it becomes clear that also extends to Hong Kong, where its store uses a different name. Photo credit: Carbonnyc.

Ensogo dropped a bombshell this morning when it announced it’s shutting down all of its business units in Southeast Asia to preserve whatever cash it has left.

The ecommerce company didn’t say whether the move also affects its Hong Kong operations, but local reports suggest that is the case.

The store reportedly suspended all online transactions today.

Ensogo’s Hong Kong office is now padlocked with a notice posted on the door about an ongoing renovation, according to a Yahoo Hong Kong report.

Ensogo’s site in Hong Kong, called Beecrazy, suspended all online transactions today, reports the South China Morning Post. Merchants who haven’t received payments for services or products booked on the estore feel “very angry and helpless.” It quoted one merchant who said he was left no choice but to accept customers who had bought daily deals from the site before today out of respect.

Some customers were not as lucky. Another local news site reported a customer was turned away by a Beecrazy merchant because the vendor’s tieup with the site has ended.

We’ve contacted Ensogo about the Hong Kong situation.

Hong Kong’s Consumer Council said it was concerned about the turn of events and has urged Beecrazy to update the public about its status and assure its merchants and customers that it would meet all of its obligations.
