A free Skype-like service meets telemarketers – that’s one of the companies that makes our list of funded startups today. Another startup keeps the marketing close to home, while an online pharmacy continues its funding streak.

Gurgaon-based online drug marketplace 1mg is on a roll. Just coming off a US$15 million series B round last month, the startup, which also lets customers order diagnostics online, has topped off that round with an investment from Switzerland-based HBM Healthcare Investments.

The funding marks HBM’s first investment in a digital health company in India.

Through 1mg, people can look up information about medicine, find cheaper substitutes for pharmaceutical brands, and order their choice of medication online. While a slew of e-pharmacy startups have popped up in India, including NetMeds, mChemist, and Practo, which offers an e-pharmacy service along with its other features. Careongo links up pharmacies online through co-branding to offer a number of health products.

Machadalo

Machadalo, a hyperlocal advertising site, has secured US$175,000 in seed funding from a group of angel investors.

Machadalo was founded in June 2015 by IIT-Bombay alumni Nitin Jain, Pankaj Kandhari, and Naveen Sharma, as well as Anupam Sorabh. The startup breaks down consumers’ preferences based on ad inventory and data science. It then implements that information into ad campaigns designed for hyperlocal group spaces like schools, colleges, and corporate parks. Its clients include NoBroker, Freshmenu, and UrbanClap.

It plans to expand to Bangalore and Delhi-NCR.
