Niki

What’s better than one Ratan Tata investment in a week? A second investment! The ex-chairman of Tata Group and serial investor has invested an undisclosed amount in Niki.ai, a chatbot powered by artificial intelligence (AI). Existing investor Ronnie Screwvala’s Unilazer Ventures also participated.

Two days ago, Ratan invested an undisclosed sum in MUrgency, an emergency response app.

Users can request a number of services via chat with Niki, including recharging mobile accounts, booking cabs, ordering food, and assisting with other purchases. The startup’s site says that new features are being added every month, with bill paying and bus booking set to be added soon. Customers pay via credit, debit, Paytm wallet, or online banking for only for the specific services they use.

Founded in April 2015 by IIT-Kharagpur grads Sachin Jaiswal, Shishir Modi, Nitin Babel, and Keshav Prawasi, the mobile app is available on Google Play. The founders began building the chatbot in Udaipur but moved in Bangalore in August 2015.

Streaming sports startup Veqta has raised US$500,000 in seed funding from early stage venture capital firm Chatsworth Management and ITW, a sports management company, which had also contributed early stage backing.

Veqta offers international sports content via on-demand video and live streaming.

“As a dedicated sports network, we will follow a ‘Freemium’ model with a large pool of content available to all users and selected premium content behind a paywall,” said co-founder Vikram Tanwar in a statement. “This will include licensed content and also our flagship studio content across cricket, football, action sports, motorsports, basketball, tennis, badminton, and a wide range of Olympic sports.”

Veqta was founded by Vikram and Varun Mathur in April 2015.
