The popularity of Twitter in India is very much boosted by the Bollywood actors who have provided an extra incentive for fans to follow (stalk) them on the microblog.
The team from Simplify360 sent us the following infographic which features the top 10 Bollywood actors on Twitter. Shah Rukh Khan is the most widely followed Bollywood actor with more than 850,000 users tracking his updates on Twitter. Assuming celebrities in the U.S like Lady Gaga and Ellen Degeneres provide a good benchmark, Bollywood celebrities on Twitter still have a lot of room for growth. Bhupendra Khanal, CEO of InRev Systems who also runs Simplify360 commented:
“Bollywood and Cricket are more than entertainment in Indian Sub-continent; they are more like religion. People live with them. So the rise of Bollywood in Twitter is a great achievement for the microblog.”

If there is anyone that Twitter should thank in India, it would probably be the Bollywood stars who attracted traction for the microblog.
