Survey: what do Indian shoppers buy online during Diwali festival? (INFOGRAPHIC)

India’s cashback and coupon site Cashkaro has come up with a user shopping preference study. The study, conducted on the eve of upcoming festival Diwali, revealed that 83 percent of respondents said they will shop online for clothes, mobile phones, and other consumer electronics.

Around 36 percent respondents said lower prices are one of the reasons they shop online, whereas 32 percent shop online due to the convenience it offers compared to crowded markets and traffic jams. Some 29 percent of users favored the greater variety available online.

During the Diwali festival, the study found 30 percent will buy clothes and accessories, followed by mobiles and electronics (25 percent) and diyas (festival lamps) and decorations (13 percent). Other than that, users will buy dried fruits and chocolates (12 percent), and gold coins and firecrackers (6 percent) online. Males were 10 percent more likely than women to say they will buy mobile and electronic items.

The survey revealed that 72 percent of respondents do less than 50 percent of their total Diwali shopping online, while 28 percent said they buy more than 50 percent.

More than 1,000 Cashkaro members and social media followers participated in the study. Survey participants were 69 percent male and 31 percent female. 61 percent were under 25 years old, 36 percent between 25 and 40, and two percent over 40.
