09/09/09: Five Things To Look Forward To

09-09-09There is always a magical feeling that surrounds special dates like 09/09/09. Because of their uniqueness, people often go out of the way to hold special celebrations and events on these dates.

Marketers are no different; they realized how consumers pay more attention to this rare combination of numbers and are pleased to leverage on this behavior. The consequence? Product launches await this special date, 09/09/09, which is easy to remember, significant and buzz filled.

We may disapprove with marketing techniques like these but we can’t deny the value-add these products present to our lives! Here are 5 products that might make your 09/09/09 more exciting.

    1. Apple iPod Launch

For the past few years, Apple would launch its new iPod series on a Tuesday each September. This year’s launch is nailed at 10:00 am Pacific time (1700 GMT) at a downtown San Francisco theater this month. What’s different is that the event no longer falls on a Tuesday. With 09/09/09 being a Wednesday, Apple has sacrificed its Tuesday tradition for a day more special.

Mac lovers are all eager to find out what new features the new iPod has to offer. Some also wonder if Steve Jobs would be leading the product launch for the first time since he returned from his 6 months medical leave.

    2. The Beatles: Rock Band

Put your guitar skills to test with The Beatles: Rock Band, a new edition of the game for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii consoles, arriving on 09/09/09. Happy to hear that? Double that joy as Apple Corps Ltd. and EMI Music have also announced 09/09/09 as the release date of the entire original Beatles catalogue, digitally remastered.

The date seems to be a perfect match for this release, as you will find a song titled “Revolution 9” in the Beatles’ White Album.
