Uber has denied allegations of charging different prices based on users’ phone models, clarifying that it does not set prices according to whether a rider uses an iPhone or an Android device.

This follows concerns raised by India’s Central Consumer Protection Agency (CCPA) about differential pricing.

An Uber spokesperson said, “We do not set prices based on a rider’s phone manufacturer” and expressed a willingness to collaborate with the CCPA to resolve any misunderstandings.

Local media and social media reports have suggested that iPhone users were charged more for similar trips than Android users, which India’s consumer affairs minister Pralhad Joshi called “unfair trade practices” that violate consumer rights.
