Zimmber aims to be handy.com for India with its latest funding

Zimmber, a hyperlocal home solutions startup, announced today that it has raised a new round of funding of US$400,000 from by InMobi’s founding team Naveen Tiwari, Amit Gupta, and Mohit Saxena. Alongside the fundraise, Zimmber also confirmed the acquisition of Dhulai, a Mumbai-based startup that provides laundry services.
Zimmber, also based in Mumbai, currently sees traction of about 100 orders per day. With the latest investment, it plans to build its technology platform, hire new talent, and consequently expand into Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, and other tier two and tier three cities.
There has been a steady rise in the amount of investment that the hyperlocal home solutions industry has been attracting. Earlier today, UrbanClap, another hyperlocal services startup acquired US$10 million series A funding from SAIF Partners and Accel Partners. GetMyPeon was also added to the list when it raised US$250,000 two days ago. It seems like Indian entrepreneurs see a lot of opportunity in easing urban living.
Zimmber trains its handy-men and accredits them before enrolling them into the company. The startup also works toward improving the skills of their hired workforce and it believes that providing credibility to them and their work will result in an increase in the quality of the service provided. They became operational in 2014 and operate in Mumbai, Pune and Gurgaon.
The startup provides services like plumbing, painting, electrical, carpentry, and house cleaning. Zimmber acquired Dhulai to fulfil market gaps and with the aim that the service will synergistically co-exist with the current list of services provided. “Acqui-hiring Dhulai helps in streamlining our supply side as our demand rises by the day,” said Anubhab Goel, co-founder at Zimmber, in a statement. Adding to this, Henal from Dhulai said, “The laundry segment is not an organized space. We started Dhulai keeping the same vision, however with advent of new local home services providers, we see it as a shared vision.”
