Yoshi’s New Island, possibly my least favourite name ever, will be released on March 14, 2014 for the Nintendo 3DS. For those of you unfamiliar with the series, Yoshi’s Island has been a series of Yoshi based games that have been released regularly since his 1995 debut with Super Mario Land 2: Yoshi’s Island.
The games involves transporting baby Mario (or Luigi) and are famous for having a more hand drawn style and slightly altered mechanics compared to other Super Mario games. The big difference in mechanics is how Yoshi, the protagonist, can eat enemies and lay eggs as opposed to simply throwing fireballs on occasion. He utilizes his talent with some gusto in the trailer below:
As you can see, the trailer includes minecart Yoshi, helicopter Yoshi and it would appear that Yoshi is now able to eat beasties ten times bigger than himself. Other than that, the game looks exactly like you would expect, so if you are feeling nostalgic this might be the Yoshi’s Island reboot for you!
