14 of the best indie games at Taipei Game Show 2015

Taipei Game Show 2015 had an expanded indie game section compared to last year’s show, and boy was that investment worth it. Approximately 45 indie game studios from all over the world congregated in the Taipei World Trade Center to show off their lovingly-made games. Here are some of the best that we managed to try out. Note that the games listed are still in development unless stated otherwise.

Boxing Angel (Taiwan)

Boxing Angel from [Childhood Studio] is unabashedly for the lads. You take on the role of a female high school boxer and swipe to throw your punches. Each fight gets you closer to the boxing championship, and you can do so with your most fashionable foot forward. Each character can wear (or not wear) nearly anything you can think of, and they don’t just look great – Boxing Angel’s generously-endowed characters have the best physical animations too. The 3D mobile game is more or less safe for work!

Sweetie Prince (Taiwan)SweetyPrince02

If the first game on this list was for the guys, this one’s for the gals. Sweetie Prince is a mobile bakery management simulator combined with the otome (games for girls) genre, where you have to cosy up to one of four baking-meisters to learn your craft. Date the sovereign of sweets and you’ll be able to learn from him, or hold hands with the prince of pies and learn his secrets. You can also – among other things – give these handsome dudes a massage, which, when done right, makes them blush. Sweetie Prince is being worked on by EnjoyPlay Digital Corp.

The Emerald Table (Taiwan)

If there’s one thing the popular Atelier game series does not have, it’s a proper mobile port of any of its titles. The Emerald Table by Taiwan’s Team Uni is just that – a mobile RPG centered around an alchemy system not unlike those you’ve tried in the Atelier series. This visually-charming adventure is set for an April release.
