Line, the messaging app superstar whose press releases constantly thwart my attempts at inbox zero, has a new announcement which is sure to please entrepreneurs. Line@, the company’s version of a corporate account is going global.
Signing up for the account, available via the separate Line@ app (iOS or Android), is free and multiple individuals from a single orgainzation can use their official one simultaneously. The account allows for one-on-one chats with fans and customers, timeline posts, as well as sending messages en masse to followers. 1,000 total messages can be sent per month.
For individuals or companies with larger fan bases, the paid plan might be appealing. It allows for 50,000 messages per month and a cost of US$0.01 for every message thereafter. It also supports rich text messaging. Line@ further monetizes via premium account names. For US$24 in the first year (and US$12 every year after), users can get an 18-character name that is searchable via Line. Regular accounts are limited to eight characters and are not searchable.
Line is not the first messaging app to offer professional accounts. WeChat already supports such accounts, but Line has beaten the Chinese juggernaut to the global audience.
Line@ is available in Chinese (Simplified/Traditional), English, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Portuguese (Brazil/Portugal), Russian, Spanish, and Thai. It can also be accessed via PC.
