The month of September has seen the Microsoft’s new console hit shelves in countries throughout Asia, with today marking the hardware’s debut in India, Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Today was originally meant to be the release date for the console in China as well, but it was suddenly pushed back to the end of the month.
The wait has been a long one for fans wanting to get their hands on the console since it was made available in the West over 10 months ago. In Korea, the first person to purchase an Xbox One decided to queue up 160 hours before launch.
While the Japanese launch earlier this month was met without much fanfare, that hardly came as a surprise to anyone. The response seems to have been much better in the rest of Asia, with parties taking place in Singapore, Hong Kong, India, and Korea. As pictured above, the Funan DigitaLife Mall was completely decked out in Xbox green for the occasion. That mall happens to the place where I purchased Halo 4 on my lone Singapore holiday early last year. The memories.

The launch lineup is fairly extensive already, with over 20 titles available, including Titanfall, Forza Motorsport 5, FIFA 15 and the other big guns of the Xbox One libary. That’s far more than an earlier launch would have afforded, and of course they’re getting the systems right before the major fall and Christmas releases.
Next week all eyes will be on how the Xbox One fairs in China, as it will mark the first console of this generation, and the first since the Playstation 2 to be released in the Middle Kingdom. he reception in other parts of Asia has to be promising.
