World of Tanks: TanksAsia Masters returns for Season 2 with $100,000 prize pool

With a total prize pool of $100,000 and 64 registered World of Tanks teams from the Asia-Pacific region, TanksAsia Masters returns for a second season as the final segment for the TanksAsia League. This league by Wargaming has three tiers: the Challenge, Regular and Masters. The first World of Tanks match for the Challenge series was held on October 20.

According to Wargaming SEA’s General Manager, Jasper Nicolas:

The game is turning into a great communication platform that combines gaming communities of different countries and regions. TanksAsia Season 1 was the first competitive league in this region and we were encouraged by the overwhelming response. We […] will certainly strive to organize more regional activities and tournaments for our supporters in the future.

Participants earn points from the weekly qualifier matches in the Challenge series. At the end of the season, these points will be tallied in order to determine the tier places for each team. There will be a weekly promotion and demotion:

• Top four teams from the Challenge Series get promoted to the Regular series where they will face the bottom four of the previous season’s Masters series
• The top four teams from the Regular series get promoted to the Masters series
• The bottom four teams from the Masters series get demoted to next Regular series
• The bottom four teams for the Regular series are automatically seeded for the next Challenge series

After the league has concluded, there will be a series of knock-out matches where the fourth and fifth placers of the Masters series will compete against the National Series champions from six different regions. Winning teams of the quarter finals will compete against the second and third place holders from the Masters series in the semi-finals.

The winning teams will then face off against champion team from the Masters series in the Grand Final to be held on January 2014 at the Taipei Game Show to compete for the $60,000 grand prize.

At the end of the second season, the eight teams that have emerged to enter the Playoffs will be awarded permanent points. The teams with the most points throughout three seasons of TanksAsia will be given the chance to represent their country in the global Wargaming.net league. Details for the Wargaming.net league are yet to be announced.
