WhatsApp gets nod to expand UPI services to 100 million users
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has allowed WhatsApp to serve an additional 60 million users via its unified payments interface (UPI) service. This means the Meta-owned app can now offer payments services to 100 million consumers in India.
WhatsApp, which currently has over 500 million users in the country, can now offer these services to nearly 20% of its user base following the approval.
Currently Walmart-owned PhonePe dominates the Indian UPI market and is followed by Google Pay in terms of total users.
