What if Microsoft Bought Apple? (TechNewsWorld, dated 3 April 2006) by Rob Enderle.
This article has caught my interest while scanning for daily articles to read. There are a couple of interesting points brought up by Enderle on the issue, particularly, on Apple-Microsoft partnership to tackle against Linux. Actually, from the open source viewpoint, I see a higher chance of Apple pairing up with Linux, because Mac OSX operating system is a variant of the free BSD Unix operating system. The integration between both platforms are much simpler. He is right about the part that Microsoft is not acquiring Apple for the OS, but he under-estimate the problem of integration between both companies. One of the things which I thought Enderle did not do, was to compare the cultures between Apple and Microsoft. Apple prides on innovation and marketing while Microsoft is stronger on mass-production and larger market share in the business units. Believe it or not, the best unit in Microsoft, as he pointed out, is the Microsoft Office for Mac unit.
