Singapore web grocery store RedMart hires former Webvan, Cold Storage, Viki execs

RedMart.com, a Singapore based online grocery store, has announced today the hiring of executives who previously served key roles at Webvan, Cold Storage, and Viki.

Joining the startup as VP of transport logistics is Tim Klem, former product manager of transportation logistics at defunct Dot-Com web grocery store Webvan and a business manager at enterprise software company SAP.

Trudy Fawcett, who was a senior category manager at supermarket Cold Storage and a buyer at Sainsburys and Iceland UK grocery stores, has come on board as merchandising director.

Last but not least, RedMart’s new product management director is Howie Chang, who was previously the head of UX and design at Andreessen Horowitz funded startup Viki.

RedMart is making it a point to hire experienced talent who are well-versed in their fields. Last year, it brought on Todd Curie, the former marketing director at eBay, as its new VP for marketing.

The company registered a monthly revenue of USD 250k in January 2013, a substantial increase from USD 15k a year before.

Following its launch in October 2011 by two former investment bankers, RedMart has gone on to secure angel funding from Skype co-founder Toivo Annus, US online grocer FreshDirect.com co-founder Jason Ackerman, former Tesco China commercial director Boon Ling Yee, and Anne-Ev Juette-Enzmann, former marketing strategy director at Tesco Thailand.

It also raised funds from Golden Gate Ventures, an early-stage investment firm supported by the NRF’s Technology Incubator Scheme, and East Ventures, an investment firm based in Singapore and Indonesia.
