IIT grad’s app gets Unitus funding to do your laundry

There’s a lot you want to do this weekend. Party hard, go for a movie, take the kids for activity classes, may be even a short, outdoor trip. But wait, who is going to do the laundry?

And washing your clothes doesn’t mean it ends there. You have to hang them out to dry, iron them, or send them out to the ‘dhobi’ – the man who irons it for you – and then wait for him to bring the clothes back, hopefully still spotlessly clean.

But what if someone did it all for you?

Gurgaon-based OneClickWash is among those who have been quick to spot the opportunity and offer end-to-end laundry services.

“Owning the entire supply chain is critical for this. This helps us provide the best possible customer experience and not just act as aggregators,” the startup’s CEO Vivek Iyer said in a statement.

The app is easy to use. Just register using your mobile number and input the necessary details such as your address. Then you may schedule a time for OneClickWash to pick up and deliver your laundry. Your clothes will be delivered back to you in at least 48 hours.

The company today announced it received an undisclosed amount of funding from Unitus Seed Fund.

The dirty linen market

There are many who get nightmares thinking of all the laundry jobs that pile up over the week. As a result, several online laundry services like MyWash, LaundryPrime, QuickClean, and ChamakDirect have sprung up in Indian cities.

The size of the household laundry market in the top 10 cities of India is estimated to be over US$2 billion – most of it still untapped.

That’s why Unitus thinks OneClickWash is in the right space.
