Warcraft 3 (WC3) DotA players may have some adjusting to do, as IceFrog finally released the version 6.80 WC3 DotA map with the same changes implemented in Dota 2. Players can download the map for free here while those who are interested in reading the patch notes may read the changelog here. If you would like to read the important notes instead, scroll down our previous article for notable 6.80 changes.
Unlike Dota 2, players aren’t forced to play on the new map. Those who are not ready for the change can still play the previous 6.79 version or other older versions for that matter for as long as you have a copy of the map. Alternatively, you can also download the older maps via the GetDota map archive.
This is the second time WC3 DotA has received an update after Dota 2 and just like last time, it took around a month or so before it got ported. While some people speculate that WC3 DotA may be on its way to fading out, there are still a good number of players who believe that WC3 DotA will “always be DotA“, since it was the first and the original. In the Philippines, for instance, WC3 DotA‘s player base is currently bigger than Dota 2‘s because of several reasons including internet speed and system requirement issues.
