Report: Walmart’s Flipkart partners with PhonePe for COD payments
“PhonePe has partnered with Walmart’s Flipkart to digitize cash-on-delivery (COD) services of the ecommerce firm,” The Economic Times reported.
Details:
- PhonePe will provide Flipkart customers with a QR code solution, that will allow them to pay through any unified payments interface (UPI) app at the time of delivery. UPI is an instant payment system used in India.
- The partnership with Flipkart will also help PhonePe cut the costs it incurs in handling cash for ecommerce and logistics firms.
Dive deeper:
- The development comes as consumers opt for contactless payments amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
- The service would also help streamline the cash-on-delivery process for couriers, who already see the payment option as a headache.
- Flipkart is expanding its services as the company joins the super-app race in India. Tata Group is reportedly in talks with Walmart for a US$20 billion to US$25 billion investment in the platform.
