Org Chart maps out the people at the top of Asia’s most prominent tech companies. Who are the key decision-makers? How are the teams organized? What does it tell us about the company’s priorities? We continue this series with Indonesian conglomerate GoTo.
Update (Mar. 2, 10 a.m. SGT): This article was updated to reflect the new titles of William Tanuwijaya and Garibaldi Thohir, as well as to highlight several other changes within the group. Our previous GoTo org chart was published on June 20, 2022.
After Gojek and Tokopedia officially joined forces to form GoTo in May 2021, there was a division of responsibilities between the leaders of the two tech giants, Andre Soelistyo and William Tanuwijaya.
While Soelistyo became CEO of the merged entity, Tanuwijaya continued leading Tokopedia as its CEO. This arrangement prevailed throughout GoTo’s much-anticipated IPO on the Indonesia Stock Exchange last year.
However, things are changing soon. On February 8, Tanuwijaya announced that in the near future, he will become co-chairman of GoTo along with its president commissioner, Garibaldi Thohir. With this, the two executives will take “an active and larger role at the corporate group level,” Tanuwijaya said. He did not reveal when this shift will happen but GoTo released a statement last month saying a shareholder meeting will be held on March 2.
Tanuwijaya’s CEO seat at Tokopedia will be taken by Melissa Siska Juminto, who will become GoTo’s president of ecommerce while retaining her current role as the group’s chief human resources officer. Meanwhile, Tanuwijaya himself will become chairman of Tokopedia.
These changes come at an opportune time as GoTo faces a global recession while pursuing its goal of becoming a profitable company within one year. Tanuwijaya and Thohir could provide much-needed help “to complete GoTo’s short-, medium-, and long-term homework,” as the former put it.

“I believe that in times of crisis, new leaders always arise,” said Tanuwijaya. “Through my new role, I wish to be a mentor and student of the future leaders at GoTo, Gojek, Tokopedia, and GoTo Financial.”
Each GoTo vertical will be led by a president. While Juminto will lead the ecommerce business, Catherine Sutjahyo, GoTo’s head of food as well as of sales and operations for Indonesia, will become president of on-demand services. Meanwhile, Hans Patuwo, head of payments and financial services at GoTo Financial, will become president of financial technology.
GoTo’s gross revenue jumped 30% to around US$375 million in the third quarter of 2022. Despite this, in November last year, the conglomerate cut 1,300 jobs, which was around 12% of its workforce at that time.
Here are a few more observations:
- GoTo president Patrick Cao will transition to a new role to lead the GoTo Future Fund, an endowment fund focusing on sustainable investments.
- Agus Martowardojo, president commissioner of Tokopedia, will join GoTo’s board of commissioners, along with Northstar Group co-founder and managing partner Patrick Sugito Walujo, Provident founding partner Winato Kartono, and former Lego Group CFO Marjorie Lao.
- Gojek co-founder Kevin Aluwi will step down from GoTo’s board of commissioners but will retain his voting shares in the company.
- Anthony Wijaya, GoTo’s head of marketplace, will step down from the conglomerate’s board of directors to focus on his role as Tokopedia’s COO.
- Pablo Malay, GoTo’s chief corporate officer and general counsel, and Nila Marita, the group’s head of external affairs, will join the board of directors.
- Sumit Rathor has become Gojek Vietnam’s general manager, replacing Phung Duc, who co-founded the entity in the country.
- As part of GoTo’s reorganization strategy, the group has acquired Swift Logistics Solutions, which was previously owned by Tokopedia.
