French coding bootcamp Le Wagon is arriving in Singapore

Le Wagon, a coding bootcamp originally from France, is arriving in Singapore later this year. Classes will be conducted at the CoCRE8 co-working space on Orchard Road, and the first cohort will begin on July 15.

Singapore is Le Wagon’s second location in Southeast Asia – after the Indonesian island of Bali – and 34th in the world. Applications are now open.

“Le Wagon’s pedagogy is not only well placed to increase the right-skilled talent pool urgently needed to fulfil 28,500 new ICT jobs expected by the government by 2020, [but] we’re also confident we can help Singapore’s entrepreneurs build world-class products,” said Dirk Schuler, founder of Le Wagon Singapore and Indonesia.

Its nine-week immersive program, which began in Paris five years ago, focuses on giving beginners coding and technical skills in web development as well as management methods for working with a development team. Students learn both back-end and front-end coding, database modelling, UI design, and product launch methodology.

Participants will also be able to plug into a 4,200-strong alumni community and get help from 300 coaches across six continents. Alumni have been hired by companies like Amazon, Google and PayPal and launched over 250 start-ups since completing the bootcamp.

Singapore has no shortage of startup schools and providers of tech-focused education. The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore notably brought over US company General Assembly back in 2015.

Other players in the space include Sweden’s Hyper Island and Taiwan’s Alpha Camp.
