Video: Selling Your Idea

Here’s a brief summary of the main points of the video. But the key here is to watch it, for those who would much prefer a visual demonstration.

Act 1: How to break the ice

Skilled communicators take nothing for granted, they don’t just wing it. They know how to grab the attention of their listeners, know the key messages they have to get across.
When selling an idea, you’re pitching yourself – you are the brand.

Act 2: Practice your pitch

Don’t jargon-speak!
The pitch needs to be clear, concise, specific and emotional.
People don’t get excited about solutions and products, but how these can improve their lives or companies.

Act 3: Applying your pitch

Know your audience and speak their language.
Everybody has their pain points, acknowledge them and offer a cure.
Decision makers will filter a pitch from their own perspective.
Keep your audience top of mind.

Act 4: State the risks

Even the boldest decision maker wants to cover his back.
Acknowledge potential problems but offer solutions.
Be ready for objections.
Follow up, ask questions and set a course of action.
