Here’s some great news for Chinese gamers as Call of Duty Online is coming to China — thanks to a partnership between Activision Blizzard and Tencent. Through this partnership, Tencent will have the exclusive license to distribute the game in mainland China.
Bobby Kotick, the CEO of Activision Blizzard said:
We think China is one of the most exciting places in the world for us to grow our business and to develop innovative new games. […] We have worked closely with Tencent to create a game with broad appeal for the Chinese market. We look forward to laying the foundation for a long-standing relationship with Tencent and to launching a new and unique experience for fans.
I confess that I suck at any first-person shooting game, but the success of the popular franchise is pretty hard to ignore. So this is certainly good news for Chinese gamers. And from Kotick’s comment, it looks like there will be more games to come for China in the future as well.
Most folks are pretty eager to see Diablo 3 in China soon as well, so much so that gamers have resorted to cracked version of Diablo 3 which is gaining popularity in China.
