Indian edtech firm Vedantu raises $24m in GGV Capital-led round
Indian edtech startup Vedantu has raised US$24 million in an extended series C round led by GGV Capital.
The round, which came in addition to the US$42 million Vedantu raised in August last year, also saw participation from existing investors. This pushes Vedantu’s total funding to about US$85 million, according to a statement.

The startup plans to use the new funds to invest in brand leadership and add new experiences for its young learners. Currently catering to students in the sixth to 12th grade, the startup now looks to expand into new categories such as early childhood to lower grades, specifically from kindergarten to standard 5.
“As we continue to grow our student enrollments by 4.5x year on year, we are gearing to invest in brand and entering very strongly in new categories of age group four to 10 years beyond current customer segments,” said Vedantu CEO and co-founder Vamsi Krishna.
Operating in the K-12 live tutoring space, Vedantu offers individual and group classes delivered by experienced teachers in a virtual learning environment. Students also access content, take their assessments, and get their learning reports on the platform.
Currently, the startup claims to have some 500 teachers who have taught more than 40,000 students spread across 30 countries.
Vedantu’s earlier series C funding was led by Tiger Global and WestBridge Capital. Accel, Omidyar India, TAL Education, and LGT Group CEO Prince Maximilian of Liechtenstein were participating investors.
Just last month, Tiger Global also invested in another Indian edtech startup, InterviewBit, leading the company’s US$20 million series A round alongside Sequoia India. InterviewBit also offers live online classes, but focuses on higher learning and computer science courses.
