Hello reader,

Working at Tech in Asia means you get to meet a lot of startups that are doing cool and innovative things. Heck, at our recent conference in Singapore, we had over 160 of them at our Startup Factory exhibition.

Whether they offer office management solutions, create influencer communities, or make breathalyzers to monitor metabolism, learning about all the ways these startups are leveraging tech to address real-world customer problems.

But having a cool and innovative solution isn’t always enough. If startups really want to grow and eventually be on par with the likes of Grab and GoTo Group, they’ll need funding to propel them on this journey.

Investors play a critical role in giving startups the opportunities to push the envelope and make a difference. Let’s dive into some of the VCs that have been cutting checks in Singapore.

Today we look at:

  • The most active investors in Singapore startups
  • Financial aggregator MoneySmart’s new insurance arm
  • Other newsy highlights such as the resignation of Kakao’s co-CEO and Wise’s plans to increase its headcount in Singapore

Singapore is home to lots of great and innovative startups, but growth would have been harder to come by without VC investment. Here’s a look at some of the most active VC firms in the city-state based on the number of deals they’ve done in the last two years.

  • At the very top: In first place is Seeds Capital, the investment arm of Enterprise Singapore, a government agency that champions enterprise development. It closed 39 deals over the last 24 months, backing biotech startup Nutrition Technologies and greentech firm Zuno Carbon, among others.
  • Numero duo: Next on the list are Antler and SOSV, with 34 deals each. Bookkeeping automation firm Bluesheets and financial intelligence startup Bizbaz are among the companies in their portfolios.
  • Next on the list: Coming up third is Sequoia Capital, which has backed 30 companies since 2020. Some firms on its list include robo-advisor StashAway and co-living firm Hmlet.
