Opera Mini users in India are in for a treat, with Opera Software partnering with UTV Indiagames to provide premium game titles, accessible from the Opera browser’s ‘Speed Dial,’ according to an announcement today.
UTV Indiagames, which has been billed as a pioneer in the India gaming industry, will now provide games such as Pirates of the Carribean, Cars 2, and DLF IPL Cricket, through the Speed Dial shortcuts on Opera Mini. DLF IPL Cricket is one of the most popular mobile games among users, and it was also featured by us in our list of top mobile applications from India.
In its announcement, Opera Software also mentioned:
With this one-click access, Opera users will get full access to an exciting collection of premium quality games, from puzzles to action and strategy, developed by UTV Indiagames, anytime anywhere. . . And not restricting the package to games alone, there will be a range of attractive wallpapers, exciting music and videos, all lined up for users to explore.
The premium content can be accessed by downloading the newest version of Opera Mini. For those who already use it on their phones, an app update will suffice.
The mobile industry in India has huge potential and is growing at a very fast rate. Opera claims that India is currently ranked third globally for mobile web usage with the highest total number of Opera Mini users. The data transfer growth since May 2010 is 160 percent, and the last year has also seen the average number of pageviews for Opera Mini in India increase from 390 to 430 per user.
This deal has probably come at the right time, especially when there is a mobile web boom in the country – although India still trails China in this regard.
