Indonesian edtech startup nets undisclosed sum from women empowerment fund

Titik Pintar, an Indonesia-based edtech startup, has secured an undisclosed amount as its first institutional investment from the Indonesia Women Empowerment Fund (IWEF) impact fund.

The edtech startup provides tailored learning for elementary school children in Indonesia through games and micro-lessons prepared by teachers and aligned with government curriculum. Content on the platform is created in Bahasa Indonesia and English and is screened by teachers who have more than 10 years of experience in teaching children.

The investment will be used to develop the company’s collection of interactive lessons and educational videos through its website.

“2020 was difficult for everyone, and we worked hard to deliver fun educational content to Indonesian kids nationwide,” said Robbert Deusing, CEO and founder of Titik Pitar. “We are confident to grow our user base in 2021 to 250,000 with the support of our strategic partners.”

According to the edtech firm, the funding is among the first investments of IWEF, an impact fund jointly managed by Moonshot Ventures and YCAB Ventures.

“Most teachers in Indonesia are women who IWEF seeks to promote, and through Titik Pintar [these women] will be able to earn a secondary income, while focusing on what they love most – teaching,” said Tom Schmittzehe, co-founder of Moonshot Ventures.

The investment follows an earlier grant from the Dutch Government and investments from Indonesian and international angel investors.

Recently, edtech has seen an explosion of interest from investors in Indonesia, recording a total deal value of US$23.7 million in 2020 after hitting its highest levels at US$150 million in 2019.
