Hootsuite lays off employees in Singapore and Vancouver: reports

Social media management platform Hootsuite has laid off employees in both Vancouver and Singapore as part of a “global reorganization,” according to reports.

Global News said the move has affected 20 employees in its home base in Vancouver, while Marketing Magazine reported that 40 percent of Hootsuite’s regional team who’s based in Singapore were effected. The Singapore office had less than 20 staff in mainly client servicing and sales roles, the magazine noted.

Tech in Asia confirmed the news independently from a person with knowledge of what just happened.

“Hootsuite has completed a global reorganization to create a simpler, more aligned business that is purpose-built to support our over 10 million customers, and scale to a multi-billion dollar enterprise,” Global News quoted Hootsuite’s corporate communications manager Sandy Pell as saying.

“With this reorganization, we have merged some business units and cut others, which unfortunately meant we had to transition around 20 Vancouver employees out of the business,” Pell added.

Also quoting Pell, The Georgia Straight said the company plans to hire over 100 people next year under the new structure.

“With this organizational change, our recent leadership additions, and our continued focus on social innovation, Hootsuite is well positioned for success,” Pell was quoted as saying.

The layoffs followed Hootsuite’s appointment of senior executive roles, including global CMO, SVP of global sales, and vice president for Asia Pacific, this year.
