Tinker Games puts out Kickstarter for 2D side-scroller Pale Blue

What is the motivation of evil? Indonesia’s Tinker Games is looking to solve that puzzle in its proposed new game, Pale Blue.

Freshly launched on Kickstarter with a modest goal of $48,000, Pale Blue is a 2D side-scrolling action adventure that will explore the life and motivations of a villain, rather than a hero.

In Pale Blue, girl-next-door Ellen is kidnapped by the Cocoon organization to aid in an apocalyptic, utopian rebirth of the world. Apparently, she chooses to stay when given the chance to leave, and the game wants to show why she did that.

Tinker Games promises a rich narrative, despite Pale Blue being an action game. The game will supposedly also have multiple storylines with different endings, as well as character progression and puzzle-solving. On the action side, Ellen will be gifted with different forms and abilities, be able to semi-roam each linear stage in order to complete various objectives, and she will be able to eat humans.

There are also contrasting characters in the game’s heroes, which include a bunch of Power Ranger-esque fighters and an individual called Alphaman, who bears resemblance to Clark Kent. Additional game characters include a girl named Tammy who’s built out of Ellen’s DNA, Coffin Knights, and the professor responsible for Ellen’s creation.

This PC side-scroller is quite a jump in product if you look at Tinker Games’ past portfolio. The Bandung-based studio has so far developed only mobile games, like its side-scrolling iOS shooter Inheritage: Boundary of Existence and feature phone exclusive Dragon Dungeon. PC game development will be a whole new kettle of fish for this team of five, who are hopefully up to the task.

Pale Blue has raised just $2,455 of its $48,000 goal at time of writing, and has 34 days to go on its campaign. Funding ends on June 20, 2014, with backers getting refunds if the game is not fully funded.

The current amount does not sound promising, but fellow Bandung-based Ekuator Games managed to raise twice the intended goal of its approximately $52,000 Kickstarter in April, for its RPG Celestian Tales: Old North. Pale Blue may not have broken any records on day one, but it certainly has a solid concept.
