In brief: TikTok disappears from India’s Google and Apple app stores
- India appears to have banned the Chinese video-sharing app TikTok, as the app becomes unavailable for download on Google’s Play Store and Apple’s App Store in the country since today, reports Quartz.
- The Madras High Court previously asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government to ban the app in the country over pornography concerns.
- India is not the first country to take action against TikTok, with the US federal trade commission slapping a US$5.7 million fine on the app to settle allegations of child privacy law violations.
