Thai Airways passengers can get wi-fi during flights starting February

Thai airways in flight wifi

Back in August of last year, Thailand’s national carrier Thai Airways applied for an in-flight wi-fi license with the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC). The regulator has finally granted the license to Thai Airways, which makes it the first airline in Thailand to offer wi-fi on-board.

Thai Airways’ AirBus A380 and A330 planes are the first that will be equipped with wi-fi.

Although passengers will get to use the wi-fi while flying as soon as this February, don’t get too excited just yet, because the pricing is high and the data allowance is low. Here’s what Thai Airways’ wifi package looks like:

  • 150 Baht ($4.50) for 3MB
  • 460 Baht ($14) for 10MB

The airline seems to be aiming its on-board wi-fi at those who want to catch up on email or use messaging apps during flight. With such a tiny data allowance, passengers won’t be able to share photos or stream movies.
