The First Startup Weekend In Taiwan!

startup-weekend-taiwan

“No talk, all action.” I love the Startup Weekend tagline. Though in my experience there is some talk involved, as participants need to not only develop but pitch their idea in a span of 54 hectic hours. It’s demanding but fulfilling. Yesterday, I received a note from Volker Heistermann that Taiwan will be having its very first Startup Weekend from August 12 to 14 at National Cheng-chi University.

The main organizers are Volker, investor at Yushan Ventures, and Elias Ek, co-founder of EnspyreNote: Folks who are attending PennUp this Friday will have a chance to meet Volker. Despite being the first Startup Weekend in Taiwan, the event is graced by notable tech leaders in the country, including Jamie Lin from AppsWork and Alex Chen from EZTable.

For those who aren’t familiar with this start-up event, it is basically a weekend-long hands-on process where entrepreneurs, both from technical and/or business backgrounds come together to explore if their start-up ideas are viable. Sign up by June 15 (tomorrow) to get a ticket at just 1,000 NTD ($35).

On a related note, we also learned that Beijing will be having their Startup Weekend this month from June 24 to 26. You can find out more information here. Last month’s Startup Weekend at Tokyo gave birth to several interesting ideas. The final pitch and demos, though mostly in Japanese, were pretty solid too. It will be great fun for entrepreneurs in Taiwan. Perhaps it may be something worth boasting about if you’re among the inaugural batch of entrepreneurs to attend Taiwan’s first ever Startup Weekend.
