Microsoft India's Facebook Page
A security survey conducted by Microsoft India on its Facebook page is revealing some interesting information about Windows users. When asked what worries them the most when they are online, the majority expressed much concern that their Facebook and email would be hacked. Surprisingly 74 percent are worried about this, as opposed to loss of personal data, credit card fraud, or identity theft.
Nearly a quarter of the Facebook survey participants also responded that they had been attacked online in the past, with the majority of those victims citing data loss as the main consequence of that attack.
While the responses to Microsoft’s survey is enlightening, the remainder of the questions make a pretty solid argument for why you might want to consider Mac or Linux instead. While I run both, I do think that Windows 7 is pretty solid compared to past iterations. But the thoughts of running anti-virus software or regularly scanning my hard drive isn’t too appealing. Having said that, the past few weeks has seen a couple of examples of Mac malware that should keep us Apple users a little more humble moving forward.
Windows is currently still the dominant operating system in India by far, with XP gradually losing ground as more people come over to Windows 7. Mac OS X and Linux are still very far behind according to numbers from Statcounter.
