Online edu-training startup Simplilearn gets $10 million funding

Simplilearn gets $10 million series B funding

Indian online education and training startup Simplilearn has raised $10 million in series B funding from Helion Venture Partners and Kalaari Capital.

It’s quite incredible progress for Simplilearn, which started as a blog in 2009 to share ideas on project management and act as a point of sharing information to young aspiring project management professionals (PMPs). Now it’s one of the most global Indian startups.

Simplilearn will utilize the funding to diversify and expand its online course catalogue. It aims to add more categories, focus on improving customer engagement by adding local team members in the US, UK, Australia and the Middle East, as well as improve its technology platform to make courses available on mobile devices.

Today, Simplilearn has expanded its focus beyond PMPs and has added other areas like agile and scrum certification, IT service management, big data and cloud computing, IT security management, finance management, quality management, and certification for SAP, Microsoft, and Cisco.

Krishna Kumar, Simplilearn’s CEO, said today:

Simplilearn aspires to be world leaders in the business of online certification exam preparation for working professionals. Our USP is that we offer easy and convenient online, classroom and blended training programs across the globe. There is no single company that helps young professionals effectively prepare for a gamut of certification exams, and this is the gap that Simplilearn is addressing.

We’ve been fortunate to have successfully trained thousands of professionals, and we’d like to use this funding to continue to scale and help more professionals around the globe to realize their career dreams.

Already present in nearly 50 countries

Helion Advisors’d director Rahul Chowdhri says that its approach of being solely focused on certification courses gives it a unique edge. Rahul adds:

As the demand for certified professionals continues to grow, Simplilearn’s innovative platform and large inventory of courses will be an invaluable resource for working professionals and large corporations.

Simplilearn offers online training, blended classroom training and exam practice tests 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in over 80 courses across 11 major categories. To date, the company has trained over 75,000 professionals around the world and is arguably the largest certification training provider for working professionals.

The company comprises a team of over 500 full-time professionals. It has a direct presence in 48 countries including the US, Australia, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Canada, and India.
