Nium partners with Australian super app for global travel cards

Pelikin, a travel super app based in Australia, and Nium, a financial services platform headquartered in Singapore, have announced a partnership that involves issuing physical and virtual travel cards for global use in anticipation of cross-industry recovery after Covid-19.

Pelikin’s app, which features a mobile wallet and prepaid Visa card, will use Nium’s platform to add card issuances and cross-border payments in its offering for Australian travelers.

Cards issued under this partnership will be immediately available for use in over 100 global markets. This will help users to make digital payments wherever they are in the world.

“The travel industry is swiftly moving away from slow-moving payment platforms to next-generation solutions that empower end consumers to take control over their finances, wherever they are in the world,” said Nium’s chief revenue officer, Frederick Crosby. “Through this partnership with Pelikin, we are proud to bring this vision to life.”

This development comes following Nium’s efforts to expand across the world. The company recently announced that it had signed a definitive agreement to acquire Ixaris, a UK-based travel payments firm, by the third quarter of the year.

Nium will also be announcing an acquisition in India by next month and another deal by the end of the year, CEO Prajit Nanu said.

This comes as Nium is looking to go public in the US within the next two years.
