Australia-based identification app secures $3.5m from Canva backers

Blinq, an Australia-based personal identity startup, has raised A$5 million (around US$3.5 million) in a seed funding from Blackbird and Square Peg Capital. It’s the first early-stage deal by both investors since they co-invested in digital platform Canva in 2014.

Founded in 2017, Blinq allows users to share their live personal information with anyone via QR codes, near-field communications, short links, email signatures, and video call backgrounds, rather than business cards. It keeps information up to date, so users don’t need to tell their contacts when they change phone numbers or email addresses.

The firm has integrated its services into customer relationship management (CRM) platforms such as Salesforce, HubSpot, and Azure AD.

Blinq was developed by former Uber Eats software engineer Jarrod Webb in 2017 as a side project. He left Uber Eats in January 2021 to fully focus on the new startup.

The company plans to use the fresh funds to expand its product team.
