Telkomsel mulls additional $300m injection into Gojek
“Telkomsel, a unit of Indonesia’s largest telecom operator Telkom, is eying a US$300 million investment in ride-hailing and payments firm Gojek,” Reuters reported, citing Telkomsel president director Setyanto Hantoro.
Details:
- The possible investment would follow Telkomsel’s US$150 million injection into the Indonesian internet titan in November last year.
- Telkomsel’s idea to double down on Gojek comes after it saw “positive results” from its partnership with the firm since early this year.
Context:
- Earlier this month, it was reported that Gojek was close to striking a merger deal with local ecommerce giant Tokopedia, which would create a new entity called GoTo.
- A source told Reuters that Telkomsel’s investment would make it one of GoTo’s top eight investors, sitting alongside Google, Alibaba, and Softbank.
