In an effort to deliver better high-speed mobile Internet, Indonesia’s biggest telco Telkomsel is providing a new Midnight Flash Unlimited package. As the name implies, this high speed data plan is valid from midnight until 05:59 am every day.
By using this Flash Midnight package, users can get 2Mbps speeds with a one or four gigabyte monthly data allowance. Exceeding the quota will result in a lower speed of 64kbps until a new month starts.
This package is designed specifically for Internet users who like to download big files that use up more data and need higher speeds. Data usage in Indonesia during working hours can be dense, causing slow-downs – so Telkomsel is attempting to offset it with the lower usage of base transceiver station (BST) traffic at night.
Denny Hamdani, a marketing representative for Telkomsel in Jakarta, explained:
Customers tend to choose volume-based internet packages rather than time-based. It is natural for a customer to want high speed internet access. This package is suitable for people who need both volume and speed. They just have to shift the usage time from daytime to midnight.
Telkomsel is targeting major cities as the primary market for this package, especially in campus areas, since young internet users tend to download and stream more data-intensive media, such as videos and music. This midnight package is an interesting initiative from Telkomsel, not only to get more revenue from its data services, but also to ease the pressure on its daytime loads.
