Telkomsel Indonesia Sees Increasing Profits From Data Services

In the first quarter of 2011, the Indonesian telecommunication company Telkomsel managed to reap profits of more than US$1.8 million just from its data services alone. According to Kontan, the value represents 14 percent of Telkomsel’s total income.

Compared with last year, the revenue from non-voice services increased by two percent. And with the further development of broadband technology, customers’ data needs have increased rapidly. Telkomsel is now building for larger data capacity to address this change in the market. President Director of Telkomsel Sarwoto Atmosutarno said, “We are building a storage capacity of four pentabytes. This capacity is even as big as banks’ storage.”

Telkomsel currently stands as one of the largest telcos in Indonesia with over 100 million subscribers.
